She's worked for several of the most prestigious media outlets around the world. The journalist spent more than a decade covering the sport for The Washington Post, including tennis, football and basketball. Nichols joined ESPN at the beginning of 2004. She worked for nine years there, earning two Emmy Awards. She also featured on the most watched programs on ESPN including SportsCenter and NFL Countdown. Her Monday Night Football coverage as the team's reporter was an integral part of her work at the network. Then she moved on to CNN and Turner Sports. The first program she developed and hosted was named self-titled Unguarded with Rachel Nichols, and aired weekly on CNN and CNN International. The show had more than a billion viewers around the world. Nichols also reported on behalf of TNT for NBA broadcasts during playoffs as well as broadcasts for the All-Star game. Nichols also reported on golf, baseball and Final Four broadcasts for CBS and TBS. This is only the second nomination in the 42 years that have preceded the award for a female among more than 200 nominated contenders.
